A Game of Tag!
Last week, I was tagged by Sher of Czech Off the Beaten Path. I was so excited to be tagged as I have seen other people being tagged in the ‘blogosphere’ but I never thought that I would be chosen!
So, here are the seven things about myself:
- I am happily married with two wonderful children – a girl and a boy.
- I moved to Australia when I was six months pregnant with my second child! We then had a difficult few months as my husband’s work visa was delayed, due to circumstances beyond our control. In fact, the whole of our first year here was quite a challenge but worth it because….
- I like living in Australia much more than I thought I would. I thought that it would be very hot most of the time and I would hate that. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there are four distinct seasons in Sydney and that it isn’t always hot here by any means. In the winter, it gets quite cold and, today, towards the end of summer, it is 16 degrees C and raining heavily!
- I would like to see more of Asia. I’m sure it has more to offer than Singapore and Bangkok airports (nice though they are!). I’d also like to travel more widely in Australia – I have seen just a tiny, tiny part of this vast country.
- I love reading, especially detective novels. My favourite authors are P.D. James, Elizabeth George, Ruth Rendell, W.J. Burley (the creator of the Cornish detective, Inspector Wycliffe), Patricia Cornwell, and Val McDermid. At the moment, I’m reading and enjoying ‘Careless in Red’ by Elizabeth George – it’s quite a thick book, so it will be some time before I finish it!
- I love being creative and making things. As well as cooking and baking, I enjoy paper crafts (making cards, collages, scrap booking), knitting, basic sewing and anything that uses recycled materials. I just wish that I had more time for these hobbies!
- When it comes to technology, I’m a bit old-fashioned. Yes, I use a computer and the Internet, but I don’t have an i-pod, a PDA, an i-phone or anything like that. Up until last year, I had a very basic mobile phone and now that I have a more up-to-date phone, I’m still a bit clueless as to how some aspects of it work! It is nice to have a camera on my mobile, though, as I can capture my children on camera more often!
I have loved traveling for as long as I can remember. I think it is the excitement of the unexpected – when you visit a new country or a new place, you never know what you might find.
I love blogging because I love researching interesting facts, writing, and communicating my experiences. I also enjoy reading other people’s blogs and have even started to make some online friends, which is wonderful.
Now I need to pass the tag on to seven bloggers to write seven things about themselves and explain why they love travelling and blogging. The seven ‘chosen ones’ are:
- Marilynne from Women over fifty - I would like to bend the rules here a bit and ask you which place(s) you visited in Australia and why you liked it so much. Also, I haven’t forgotten about the ‘Life is Grand’ award - thanks for that!
- laneerg of the Single Frugalton: check out her blog for some excellent free and inexpensive ways of showing your loved ones that you care;
- caregivingdaughter: this a wonderful blog by someone who is so sensitive to everyone’s feelings in a very difficult situation.
- Chameleonsdream at Coffee Break: if you love to relax with a coffee, as I do, check out this blog, which is all about coffee.
- Yanjiaren from Green not Mean: a thought-provoking blog about environmental issues.
- Cindy23 from Rewards of Working from Home: a very interesting blog with lots of not very well-known work from home opportunities.
and last but by no means least:
- mabela from If I’m not mistaken : I’m often stuck for ideas on how to keep my kids amused but this lady is full of brilliant ideas!
So, congratulations ladies! I look forward to reading your blog posts!

Thanks for the tag! I like Patricia Cornwall as well.
Thanks for tagging me. I’ll answer the personal question first, then answer the rest in my own blog later today. (That’s http://womenoverfifty.today.com).
We visited Sydney, Hobart (Tasmania), Adelaide, Coober Pedy, Ayres Rock, Cairns, and Melbourne in that order. Each place had something different to offer. We went in the fall, April, and went to Hobart first because it was the coldest. I remember complaining about the cold there, and a woman said “Dearie, that wind’s coming from Antarctica.” Then I realized I was really there, I was in Australia and that wind was blowing in from Antarctica.
More in my blog.
Marilynne
Hi laneerg - You’re welcome. For a long time, I didn’t read Patricia Cornwell’s books as I thought that they would be too gruesome. Then, I was given one and I was hooked! Since then, I’ve read many of her books but not in the order they were written which is OK as far as the stories are concerned but, sometimes, something about a character is explained in an earlier book, so I am always saying, ‘Oh, so that’s why….!’
Hi Sher - I’m feeling a lot better today after a good night’s sleep, thanks. It is definitely true that it is hot all year round in places like Queensland, Darwin and Perth but Sydney, Melbourne and Tasmania have more temperate climates, and, as Marilynne points out, when the wind blows from Antarctica, it definitely feels cold!! Last winter, I wished that I had brought more warm jumpers with me!
Hope that you and your husband are feeling better today - I’ll visit your blog later to see what you are up to!
Hi Marilynne - Thank you for sharing - that must have been a fantastic trip! I’ve just read about the first leg in your blog and am looking forward to hearing about the rest of it. Yes, the cold wind from Antarctica is definitely chilling but it must be more so in Hobart as it is much further south than Sydney. I’m looking forward to hearing about your impressions of Tasmania as that’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit - hopefully it will inspire me to check out some cheap flights!!
Thank you! I am a little behind on reading blogs this week, work has been crazy! My husband likes to read your blog with me. It is one of the countries he wants to visit! We have a list! Australia is in the top 3 along with Italy and China! We will be well educated when we get there thanks to your blog!
Hi Cindy - I hope that you have a nice relaxing weekend. Glad to hear that you and your husband like reading my blog and I hope that you get to visit Australia soon. Italy is also a very beautiful country - you will love it - and China is also on my wish list!
Thanks for the tag! I’ve always thought Austrailia would be a really neat place to visit.
Hi caregivingdaughter - You’re welcome! Hope that you get to visit Australia soon!
