Colourful Australian Trees

We are fortunate to live in an environment where there is an abundance of colourful flowers, plants and trees. Even if you go for a short walk in the Sydney suburbs, you can see many colourful trees.

Crimson Bottlebrush Tree

There are many of these trees with red flowers near to where we live. I initially thought that they were flame trees, but, upon searching the Internet, I found that flame trees are only found in Western Australia and look different from these. I think I have identified this tree as the Crimson Bottlebrush Callistemon citrinus). The name is very appropriate, as the flowers do look like little red bottle brushes!

I came across this bigger tree a few days ago. It has lovely purple flowers. Again, I didn’t know what it was called, as the trees are nothing like this in England! From my Internet research, it appears that the name of this tree is the Jacaranda. It is not native to Australia but originates in South America.

Jacaranda Tree

I agree with the author of this article on the jacaranda that, before I came to live in Australia, I had little interest in plants and trees. Now, with all the colourful and beautiful trees surrounding me, it is hard not be enchanted by the beauty of nature and to take more of an interest in my environment.
