Hargraves Lookout - a Peaceful Spot in the Blue Mountains

Blue Mountains from the lower lookout at Hargraves Lookout

This is a view of the Blue Mountains from the lower lookout point at Hargraves Lookout.

Hargraves Lookout is a good place to visit as there are very few tourists – we had the place almost to ourselves. It is quite literally “off the beaten track” as it accessed by a dirt road. Unlike Sublime Point, it is easy to walk from the car park to the lookout point – there are no unfenced steep drops, although there is a walk from the lower lookout point into the bush that looks very steep and precarious! There is no fencing to create a barrier and, as usual, the Australian warning signs tend to be a bit last-minute. This sign, which says, “Danger: Cliff Edge” was about 1cm away from the edge!

Danger Sign at Hargraves Lookout

While we were at Hargraves Lookout, the wind increased and the sky began to look steel-grey. We felt a few spots of rain and decided that, as the weather was changing so dramatically, it could be a good time to head home.

We drove back to Sydney, stopping at the Norwest shopping centre, a place we hadn’t visited before, just off the motorway. We went to the Gloria Jeans coffee shop there and ate mini quiches and drank chai latte (or babycino in my daughter’s case!). Always on the hunt for a bargain, we bought three large, red Gloria Jeans’ Christmas mugs for A$2 each. They don’t look too Christmassy, so we reckoned that we could use them all year round!
