Second Hand Book Shopping on Saturday

Yesterday I had a browse around my local ‘pre-loved’ bookshop. I love going in there - there are shelves of book from the floor to the ceiling and also piles on the floor everywhere. It can be quite difficult to get around because there are so many books everywhere!

I love browsing there because you never know what you will find. I enjoy reading mystery/detective novels, so I had a look in that section and came across this book:

The Green Opal Book

I was intrigued by the title, ‘The Green Opal’ as I thought it might have an Australian connection…and I was right! A Sydney bus ticket is found on the floor of a bar in Marseilles, France. Who had left it there and why? It sounded like an interesting mystery, so I bought it.

It was published in 1960, so the fact that it is quite an old book should also be interesting. I started reading it last night and, so far, it seems to be the type of fast-paced mystery story I enjoy. I’ll write a review of it when I’m finished.

I also bought ‘Put on By Cunning’ by Ruth Rendell. I always enjoy reading her detective/mystery stories. I’ve read so many of her books that I’m amazed that I still often find books by her that I haven’t yet read. Like Agatha Christie, she is a very prolific novelist and is still writing at least two books a year.
