Working on New Year’s Day!

On New Year’s Day, I stayed at home and did some work while my husband took the children to the Koala Park. They definitely got the better end of the deal! My daughter, although a bit reticent a first, stroked a tame kangaroo that was bigger than her. I was amazed that you were able to get so close to the kangaroos.

The keeper gently took a sleeping koala bear out of a gum tree and allowed the children to stroke it.

The Koala Park is like a mini-zoo with such Australian animals as dingoes, which are wild dogs, introduced to Australia thousands of years ago by the Aborigines; large flightless emu birds; and echidnas, which are like large hedgehogs with long prickly spikes.

Why, you may ask, did I miss out on such a trip? Well, I have a deadline for a regular client in mid-January. I usually work in the evenings after the children have gone to bed, but it is much, much easier to concentrate during the day with no one else in the house.

So, on a few days during the Christmas holidays, my husband offered to take the children out, so that I can get down to some serious work. It definitely worked well today as I exceeded my daily work target. Also, I’m looking forward to a trip to the Blue Mountains that we have planned for tomorrow, so that was a good incentive to work hard today. I still have some way to go before I finish the project but at least I am further forward now.

Apart from that, I thought about a few goals that I could set for January, both from a business and a personal point of view. I think that it is easier to set monthly goals rather than annual ones (such as New Year’s resolutions), as monthly goals are easier to achieve, and, if you fall short, you can just revise your goals for the next month.

I hope that you all had a happy New Year’s Day, whatever you did.
